Note that each escaped alien incurs a substantial cash penalty, which makes this achievement particularly difficult to attain, as you will be largely unable to afford upgrades, shields and smartbombs.įor this reason, it's best to attempt this in a second playthrough. To let an alien escape, simply allow it to land without capturing or killing it. However, like with other challenge levels, 1-2 smartbombs make the task significantly easier.Īwarded for allowing 100 parachuting aliens to escape in a single playthrough. The first challenge level - after wave 7 - is actually one of the hardest, because your ship will still be underpowered and it can be easy to accidentally let saucers escape. Smartbombs are extremely useful for catching any saucers who almost manage to escape off the screen. Level select gives you an easy way to replay any challenge levels where you haven't gotten a perfect score yet. In later levels, when you've upgraded your ship, you can pretty much just sit in one spot and keep firing, as it's very hard for saucers to slip past the constant stream of bullets. The saucers don't attack and need only one hit to go down.Įarly on, it's best to try and shoot down the saucers as soon as they appear. To achieve a perfect score, you need to destroy every single flying saucer in the level. The challenge levels appear after every 7 waves and provide a reward based on your result (extra shields, a cash bonus, etc). Play it safe and don't go out of your way to capture parachuting aliens.Īwarded for earning the perfect score in the corresponding challenge level. The last world (Titan) is quite a bit harder than the previous ones, so feel free to use smartbombs whenever you get into trouble.Moving into those areas before the circles dissipate will damage your ship. Note that enemy bombs leave behind circles marking their area of effect after exploding. There is no temporary invincibility when you get hit and it's therefore easy to rapidly lose several shield points if you're not careful. Since death is permanent, be sure to have 3-4 shields at all times.Escaped aliens incur a considerable cash penalty. The alien can be shot and killed mid-air or instead captured for a cash bonus. When you shoot down an enemy ship, occasionally an alien will come parachuting out. This allows you to replay all the levels again while maintaining your achievement progress. Once you've beaten the last world (Titan), the game will reset back to the first world (Earth), with all upgrades, cash, shields, and smartbombs fully intact, albeit with slightly more durable enemies.Note that this does not carry over your achievement progress. The level select screen allows you to start the game on the first wave of each world (either wave 1, 21, 41, 61 or 81) with all the upgrades, cash and score you previously had when reaching that world. However, your progress will be stored if you simply save and quit. Dying or restarting from the level select screen will reset all progress. For example, WAR CRIMES requires you to kill 100 parachuting aliens without getting a Game Over screen. Everything must be done in one playthrough. It's important to note that achievement progress is not cumulative.Use this to your advantage to dodge enemy shots and explosions. Your movement speed is tied to your mouse and is therefore essentially limitless.Earning perfect scores in challenge levels can provide extremely useful rewards, including extra shields, smartbombs, a $1000 cash bonus or even a free weapon upgrade. The waves are very short and usually take only about 10-20 seconds to complete, even on later worlds. There are also challenge levels after every seven waves (a total of 14) that give you a chance to earn extra rewards. There are five worlds, each with 20 waves of enemies and an alien mothership as a boss.
